Say No to Addiction

Cocaine Abuse

When people try out cocaine or use it just for excitement, they most likely do not imagine to be hammered by its extremely addictive nature. Strongly mind-altering, cocaine is identified by some as a trendy drug of the jet-setting or Hollywood crowd; whereas others relate it with a fast high, as a means to enhance energy and stamina, or even as a sexual stimulant. No matter what the relation, anybody who tastes cocaine is at risk of becoming addicted. Some of the effects of cocaine addiction are listed below:

Dependence on Cocaine:

After tasting it for the first time users need more of the drug each time to experience the same sensation and stimulatory effects. This leads to addiction and begins a vicious cycle, an infinite craving to replicate the first-time elating experience.

Health Problems Based on Type of Ingestion:

  • Snorting: Unrelenting runny nose, reduced sense of smell, recurrent nosebleeds, complexity in swallowing, constant gruffness, and nasal perforation.
  • Ingesting: Ulcers, continuing nausea, reduced blood flow to the intestines, severe bowel gangrene, and chronic abdominal pain.
  • Injecting: HIV, Hepatitis, other blood-borne diseases, and severe allergic reactions.

Cocaine users also report respiratory and heart failure and even first time users are no exceptions. Use of cocaine restricts the blood vessels causing the heart to become arrhythmic. Moreover breathing becomes rapid; all these factors can lead to heart or lung failure and result in death of the user. The condition only gets worse with prolonged usage.

Psychological Impact:

As cocaine changes the way the brain functions normally seizures are not uncommon in addicts. Complete paranoid psychosis, hallucinations and violent behavior are not uncommon in cocaine addicts. Cocaine abuse also changes the personality of a person and can seriously damage the social life of the addict. Lying, cheating, and stealing and other more serious behavior such as extortion, robbery and murder may develop so as to cover for the expenses of getting cocaine.

Insanity and/or Death:

Prolonged usage of cocaine increases the tolerance towards the drug and addicts need more of it to experience the euphoria they felt the first time. Taking more cocaine accelerates the negative effects it has on the body and without proper care the addict can become insane or die due to failing health.
